Car flips after Main Street collision in Lewiston

Aug. 4—LEWISTON — An 82-year-old Augusta woman was examined for pain Wednesday after her car collided with a pickup truck and rolled onto its roof on Main Street.

Police said Patricia Dostie was making a left turn onto Main Street from the Veteran's Memorial Bridge at about 2 p.m. when her car was struck by a pickup truck which was headed outbound on Main Street.

Police said the driver of the pickup, 60-year-old Alan Gay, of Farmington Falls, had failed to stop at a red light. His 2005 Nissan struck Dostie's 2004 Ford Escape, causing it to flip over in the roadway near the Vet's Bridge overpass.

Dostie was taken to Central Maine Medical Center to be examined for complaints of pain. Gay was not hurt in the wreck.

The crash caused traffic to backup on both sides of Main Street as police, fire and rescue crews responded to the scene.

Both vehicles were towed. Police were continuing to investigate the crash later Wednesday.
