Captains win fourth in a row; Gavin Williams leaves game

May 27—The Captains won their fourth game in a row, 3-2, over host Peoria on May 27.

During the fourth inning, Lake County ace and Guardians 2021 first-round pick Gavin Williams took a line drive to his glove hand and left the game. Until that point, Williams pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed no runs, gave up three hits and struck out seven. He made 60 pitches, with 37 strikes.

Captains pitcher Gavin Williams had to leave his start with 2 outs in the bottom of the 4th after taking a line drive off his glove hand wrist. Let's hope it's nothing serious but judging by his reaction it does not look good. pic.twitter.com/HpE3MdRYAj

The Captains (22-20) scored their first run in the second inning on a throwing error that allowed Petey Halpin to come home. In the ninth, Michael Amditis made it 3-0 with a two-run single.

Those runs would be needed, as Peoria scored twice in the home half of the ninth off Captains reliever Zach Hart before he got a groundout and a strikeout to end the game.

The series continues at 7:35 p.m. May 28. Lefty Doug Nikhazy (0-2, 5.06 ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Captains.
