Who should be the Caller-Times Athlete of the Week?

A lineman throwing a touchdown pass plus some other outstanding performances on the basketball court highlight this week's Caller-Times Athlete of the Week voting.

The Caller-Times is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close on Thursday and the winners will be announced Friday each week.

Flour Bluff offensive lineman, and Virginia Tech commit, Johnny Dickson has been playing both sides of the ball the last few weeks and his role was expanded in last week's regional semifinal victory against Gregory-Portland. Dickson threw a touchdown pass in the 47-44 victory, along with recovering a fumble on defense.

Veterans Memorial linebacker ER Dedase totaled 12 tackles in the Eagles regional semifinal victory against McAllen Memorial.

On the hardwood, Robstown's Zoe Hunt knocked down six 3-pointers in a victory for the Lady Pickers against Santa Gertrudis Academy.

THIS WEEK'S NOMINEES

• ER Dedase, Veterans Memorial football: Dedase totaled 12 tackles, including nine solo in the Eagles victory against McAllen Memorial in a regional semifinal.

• Johnny Dickson, Flour Bluff football: Along with helping to pave the way for the Hornets on offense as an offensive linemen, Dickson recovered a fumble, ran the ball and also threw a touchdown pass as a Wildcat quarterback in the Hornets win against Gregory-Portland.

• Jacquelynn Garcia, Mathis girls basketball: Scored 85 points in five games at the Gregory-Portland tournament, including 26 in a win against Santa Gertrudis Academy and 21 in a loss to Calallen.

• Kaylee Howell, Rockport-Fulton girls basketball: Scored 23 points in a victory against San Antonio Lanier in the Floresville Tournament.

• Zoe Hunt, Robstown girls basketball: Scored 19 points, including six 3-pointers, in a victory against Santa Gertrudis Academy.

• Gabriel Juarez, Gregory-Portland football: Juarez totaled 10 tackles, a block punt and had a defensive touchdown for the Wildcats in a regional semifinal loss to Flour Bluff.

• Terrell Palmer, King boys basketball: Palmer scored 29 points in a victory against Ingleside.

• Donny Thomas, Bishop boys basketball: Scored a combined 57 points in victories against Macedonian Christian and Edinburg.
