Flames' Lucic crashes into net in metaphor for late stages of career

One single play can be a beautiful summary of a player’s career — Bobby Orr’s diving goal to win the Stanley Cup, Mats Sundin’s 500th goal, etc.

On Monday night in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Calgary Flames forward Milan Lucic had that same tier of moment.

With just over one minute left in the game, tied 2-2, Lucic stormed the net in hopes of being that immovable object to bounce pucks off of and somehow end up in the back of the net.

As the 31-year-old forward went to maneuver around Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry, he caught some of the ice and was sent tumbling like the giant boulder he is.

At least Lucic can somewhat laugh at himself and the series of errors that led him to being face-down, trapped in the net.

Through 25 games played this season, the washed forward has no goals and four assists. Once a star, Lucic has only lit the lamp 16 times since the start of the 2017-18 campaign.
