Cade York wins Browns’ award for top rookie at training camp

·1 min read

During his time at LSU, Cade York was just about automatic. If you saw him trotting out on the field for a field goal attempt, you had a notion that it was going in every time.

In 37 games for the Tigers York was 54-for-66 (82%) on field goal tries and 164-for-168 on PAT attempts while going 75-for-75 his last two seasons. That kind of production led to York being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round (124th overall) of the 2022 NFL draft, making him the highest-drafted kicker in the NFL since 2016.

Ever since he stepped onto the practice field in Cleveland, Ohio, he has picked up where he left off in Baton Rouge — wowing coaches and spectators alike with his ability to hit field goals at a high clip. He was recognized as the top rookie at training camp by the team.

It is noted that he even made a 55-yard field goal in practice on Tuesday to put the icing on the cake.

York is a rare talent at the kicker position, and he should be poised to become one of the NFL’s top specialists.
