C-M wrestlers edge L-S in SICL quadrangular

Dec. 6—SULLY — On the mat, Lynnville-Sully's wrestling team was better than Colfax-Mingo. But the scoreboard was kind to the Tigerhawks after they were given four forfeits during a head-to-head dual on Thursday.

The matchup came down to criteria and the Tigerhawks came away with a 37-36 victory over the host Hawks. It was the lone win for C-M on the night and L-S was shut out during a South Iowa Cedar League quadrangular that also featured North Mahaska and Belle Plaine.

L-S went 5-2 in contested matches against C-M. The Hawks' contested wins came from Kendric Johnson (132), Trevor Van Wyk (138), Terran Gosselink (152), Kyle Squires (182) and Benjamin Squires (285). Gentry Walston also took a forfeit at 120 pounds.

C-M's contested wins were recorded by John McGill (170) and Josue Rodriguez (106).

Every contested match on the mat ended in a pin. Van Wyk's win by fall came in 24 seconds.

The Tigerhawks' four forfeits were taken by Cason Fitch (126), William Zook (145), Tate Carlson (160) and Jermaine Cross (195).

Belle Plaine downed Colfax-Mingo 64-12 and defeated Lynnville-Sully 48-30. The Plainsmen also took care of North Mahaska 48-36. North Mahaska was a 63-12 winner over C-M and a 51-24 victor over the Hawks.

Belle Plaine was 8-2 in contested matches against C-M. Fitch and Isaiah Baucom both won by fall. Belle Plaine took three forfeits.

Against North Mahaska, C-M was 2-8 in contested matches. The Warhawks took three forfeits.

The contested wins came from McGill (160) and Seth Brant (152). McGill's win by pin came in 37 seconds and Brant won his match by fall in 38 seconds.

Lynnville-Sully surrendered five forfeits to both Belle Plaine and North Mahaska.

Against the Plainsmen, the Hawks were 5-2 in contested matches. Those wins came from Walston (120), Van Wyk (138), Gosselink (152), Benjamin Squires (285) and Reese Dunsbergen (170). All five victories came by fall.

The Hawks and Warhawks were 4-4 in contested matches. Walston, Van Wyk, Gosselink and Kyle Squires won their bouts by fall.

McGill highlighted the Tigerhawks with a 2-1 night that included two pins. Van Wyk and Gosselink both were 3-0 with three pins for L-S and Walston was 3-0 with two pins.
