C-M finishes fifth, Baxter ninth at Dennis Field Invitational

Dec. 7—WOODWARD — Colfax-Mingo's wrestling team brought just four grapplers to the Dennis Field Invitational on Saturday.

But those four Tigerhawks were good enough to put C-M in the top five of the team standings. Colfax-Mingo scored 75.5 points to finish fifth, and Baxter was ninth with 63 points.

Host Woodward-Granger won the tournament with 204.5 points. The other three teams in the top five were Roland-Story (172), Martensdale-St. Marys (106) and Southeast Warren (78.5). All four of those teams had at least nine wrestlers.

The rest of the 10-team field included Collins-Maxwell (75), Des Moines North/Hoover (72), Saydel (72), Baxter (63) and Coon Rapids-Bayard (27).

Class 1A No. 11 John McGill (145), Shane Aikin (220) and Kenny Schlosser (285) all won titles at their respective weights.

McGill remained undefeated on the season after a 2-0 day at 145 pounds that included a 17-2 win over Baxter's Curtis Gliem in the finals. His other win was a 12-0 major decision.

Gliem was second at 145 as he was 2-1 on the day and is now 5-1 on the season. His two wins were both by pin.

Aikin was 3-0 at 220 and is now 5-1 on the season. He started and ended his day with wins by pin and had a medical forfeit win in between.

At 285, Schlosser was 2-0 after a win by pin and a win by an 8-4 decision. Baxter's Aiden McFadden was 2-1 and finished third. His wins were by pin and a 14-1 major decision.

Colfax-Mingo's other wrestler was Austin Lane. He finished fourth at 170 after going 2-3. Both of his wins were by fall. Baxter's Hope Good placed sixth at 170.

The Bolts brought five wrestlers total. Cole Smith was third at 126 and Callyn Bishop placed fourth at 160.

Smith started his day with a 16-10 win and ended it with a pin. He was 2-2 on the day. Bishop also was 2-2 at 160. He won both his matches by fall.
