C-M downs L-S in first wrestling matchup of season

Dec. 5—BELLE PLAINE — Colfax-Mingo and Lynnville-Sully will face off against each other multiple times this season.

Round 1 on Thursday went to the Tigerhawks as Colfax-Mingo collected four forfeits and recorded a pair of pins in a 36-30 victory.

Colfax-Mingo and Lynnville-Sully faced off against host Belle Plaine and North Mahaska in a South Iowa Cedar League quadrangular, but both teams came up short twice.

The Tigerhawks lost to Belle Plaine 54-27 and fell 60-24 to North Mahaska. C-M was 22-18 in contested matches.

The Hawks suffered a 54-22 loss against Belle Plaine and were defeated 46-29 by North Mahaska.

Colfax-Mingo had to rally to down Lynnville-Sully. The dual started with a Miles Mintle pin over Shane Aikin at 220 pounds.

Gaven Slycord got the Tigerhawks on the board with a win by forfeit at 285 and then Lily Webster pinned Elizabeth Elliott with 6 seconds left in their match at 106 to put C-M in front 12-6.

Danica Linn then took a forfeit at 120 to extend the lead. L-S scored three straight wins by fall as Skyler Stoll pinned Mariah Webster at 126, Caleb Rea stuck Kylie Doty at 132 and Terran Gosselink scored a win by fall over Kirsten Frier at 138.

The two teams exchanged wins by forfeit as John McGill took one for C-M at 145 and Maxwell Mintle was given one at 152 for L-S.

The dual ended when Austin Lane pinned Malcolm Hay with 2 seconds left in the match at 170 and Katie Schlosser took a forfeit at 182.

In Colfax-Mingo's loss to Belle Plaine, McGill scored a win by fall and Aikin, Doty and Nate Smith (285) took forfeits. Mariah Webster also had a 7-6 victory at 126.

The Tigerhawks had four wins against North Mahaska. McGill, Lane and Aikin all won by fall and Linn took a forfeit.

Class 1A No. 11 McGill (138) was the only Tigerhawk to go 3-0 on the night but Linn and Lane were 2-0 and Aikin finished 2-1.

L-S got a win by fall from Stoll against Belle Plaine and Rea and Miles Mintle each took forfeits. Elliott won her 106-pound match 13-4.

Against North Mahaska, Rea, Gosselink, Miles Mintle and Hay all won by fall and Max Mintle won 15-0.

Rea and Miles Mintle both were 3-0 on the night and Stoll, Gosselink and Max Mintle each went 2-1.
