Buyer eyes former Haworth plant

May 8—HIGH POINT — A shuttered furniture factory could see new life thanks to a prospective buyer.

Terry Seitz, owner of Woodbrook Designs, a case goods importer that has a warehouse in High Point, said he has a contract in place to purchase the Haworth seating property at 1673 W. English Road.

The facility, which made office furniture, closed in January.

Seitz said his business has picked up considerably, and he needs more warehouse space to fill orders for his furniture products.

Haworth, based in Holland, Michigan, operated at the 131,000-square-foot building until it closed as part of a consolidation with its other facilities in North Carolina.

It sits on 4.45 acres and is listed for sale for $525,000.

Seitz said Haworth's woodworking equipment is still in the building and will be auctioned off June 2.

The property is also undergoing an environmental assessment to address any potential past industrial contamination, he said.

Assuming there are no issues flagged in either case or with any other due-diligence matters, Seitz said he expects to close on the purchase by June 10.

Once he takes ownership, he said he only plans to use about 40,000 square feet of the space and lease the rest of it, possibly to a manufacturer.
