Button Rock Preserve opens its restrooms Saturday

Apr. 10—The restrooms at Longmont's Button Rock Preserve west of Lyons will reopen for the summer season on Saturday, city officials announced Friday.

The restrooms — two vault toilets on the main access road within the preserve — were closed last winter following a temporary closure earlier last year due to public health concerns related to COVID-19.

Longmont is encouraging Button Rock Preserve visitors to bring their own hand sanitizer and practice "leave-no-trace" practices, such as packing out all litter and waste, when recreating in areas without restrooms to help protect the North St. Vrain watershed. That watershed provides the drinking water for the communities of Lyons and Longmont.

Longmont park and trail restrooms inside the city reopened for the season on April 2 and are open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

People can call 303-651-8416 or visit bit.ly/park-restrooms to see more detailed information on those restrooms' availability. People also are encouraged to call that telephone number if they see a problem with a public park or greenway restroom facility inside Longmont.

Once open, the park and greenway restrooms inside the city are cleaned and restocked once per day, seven days a week, but the city staff said visitors are encouraged to bring their own soap or hand sanitizer because Longmont cannot guarantee these items will be in stock at all times.
