Burger King fires 5 employees accused of drawing a pig on police officer's wrapper

Five Burger King employees were fired from their positions at a Clovis, New Mexico, restaurant for allegedly drawing a pig on a police officer's wrapper.

"Well, while on lunch break (and in uniform) I ordered food at Burger King and received this," Officer Timo Rosenthal shared in his now viral Facebook post. "The patties were burnt and the burger was of very poor quality. Guess that was the last time I ate at Burger King in Clovis, NM."

Speaking with Fox & Friends, Rosenthal drove through the chain restaurant's drive-thru on Wednesday with a rookie, and they initially thought the drawing was "comical."

However, when the Clovis Police Department officer opened the wrapper, he saw that his meal appeared to be deliberately overcooked.

"I knew it wasn't a joke," Rosenthal said. "I knew it was out of spite."

According to Burger King, the five employees involved in the incident were fired shortly after the image of the wrapper was shared on Rosenthal's Facebook.

"I don't blame Burger King at all; it's the fault of a few people that work there," Rosenthal said. "[Burger King] reached out to me and apologized."

Burger King provided the following statement to Fox News: “What occurred is unacceptable and not in line with our brand values. When made aware of the incident, the restaurant owner immediately reached out to the officer involved to apologize and terminated the team members involved.”

The chain added that they will give free meals to uniformed officers and provide a catered lunch to the Clovis Police Department.

Burger King and Rosenthal did not immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s requests for comment.
