Buckingham Palace chefs shared their recipe for ‘Queen-certified’ royal scones: ‘Must give this a go’

We may never get to live like royals, but at least now we can eat like them.

That’s because the official pastry chefs at Buckingham Palace have shared their recipe for the same fruit scones served at the royal residence.

The famous recipe was shared in honor of the Queen’s summer garden parties, an annual series of events that were canceled this year due to the ongoing global pandemic.

“Every year at Garden Parties across The Royal Residences, over 27,000 cups of coffee, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake are consumed,” the chefs wrote on the royal family’s official Instagram account. “The Royal Pastry Chefs are happy to share their recipe for fruit scones, which traditionally would be served at Buckingham Palace every summer.”

The instructions, which can be found on Instagram, are surprisingly simple for a dish served under such extravagant circumstances. There are just seven ingredients — most of which the average, non-nation-ruling person probably has in their pantry.

Still, some American commenters seemed frustrated by the sheer Britishness of the recipe, which was measured in grams and featured the mention of sultanas, a type of grape that’s far more common in the U.K.

“Will try, but first [problem] is to translate to American measures,” one user wrote.

Most users were far more positive though, with plenty of commenters sharing their excited anticipation to make a “Queen-certified” snack.

“Must give this a go,” one user wrote.

“I mean… I don’t think it can get any more official than that can it?” another added.

“I can’t wait to try this recipe tomorrow,” a third said.

Buckingham Palace didn’t stop there, either. A few days later, the account shared the recipe for another royal favorite: Victoria sponge cake.
