Broomfield residents invited to relive the bone wars

Apr. 17—Broomfield residents will have a chance to relive the bone wars.

The Broomfield Library in partnership with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science is hosting The Bone Wars of the Late 1800s, an event designed to tell the story of the period of fossil hunting.

"Science and history come together to tell the real-life story of drama, conflict and suspense of the bone wars," the event description reads. "In pursuit of the next great dinosaur fossil discovery, paleontologists resorted to lies and fraud in order to get ahead."

The fictional paleontologist Will Sharpe, played by Denver Museum of Nature & Science actor Andrew Parker, along with Broomfield Museum Coordinator David Allison will lead the event.

"Experience all of the competition, tension, and rivalry that existed among paleontologists in the late 1800s as you explore the cutthroat world of fossil hunting," the event description added.

The event is scheduled for May 9 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Broomfield Auditorium. There are 100 tickets to the free event. Masks are required and must be worn the entire time. The event will also be streamed live at Broomfield.org/Live. Additional information can be found at creativebroomfield.com.

Friends of Broomfield History and the Science & Cultural Facilities District are also supporters of the program.
