Broomfield City Council approves modifications to Enhance Broomfield grant program

Jan. 28—The Broomfield City Council unanimously approved modifications to the Enhance Broomfield grant program at Tuesday night's council meeting.

The program, which was started in 2015, provides matched support to businesses for capital improvements to property and building. Between 2015 and 2019, the program provided 39 businesses with $580,000 in matching grants.

The grant was modified in 2020 to address impacts on businesses from the COVID-19 pandemic. This modification allowed direct grants of up to $7,500 per business to support employment, operations and direct increased costs. This resulted in 226 small business grants totaling more than $870,000.

The new modifications approved Tuesday night will allow businesses to apply for and be awarded up to $25,000 in a one-to-one match for modifying their location, buying new equipment and purchasing other work capital, according to the resolution summary.

The modification also states businesses could use these funds directly or towards loan payments for upgrades.

"The proposed modification of the Enhance Broomfield program has been developed based upon best practice research and knowledge, requested from several businesses and community business leaders. The program will allow us to better serve the sustaining and expansion needs of local businesses serving new and returning customers and address changes in consumer shopping and dining behavior and preferences," the summary states.

Since the resolution was approved, the program will begin marketing to local businesses "seeking to invest and expand and begin accepting applications."
