Brookfield boys basketball tops Hubbard, 51-48, for 1st win of season

Dec. 4—Coach Shawn Hammond's Brookfield High boys basketball team rebounded from a season-opening loss to Mathews with a 51-48 win at Hubbard on Friday night.

Hubbard led 16-14 at the end of the opening quarter and 23-22 at the break. Brookfield pulled away by outscoring the Eagles 19-13 in the 3rd quarter and held on for the win.

Isaiah Jones rifled in 21 points to lead Brookfield, Donovan Pawlowski had 18 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals, and David Pawlowski ripped down 12 rebounds.

Riley Heckert posted 17 points for Hubbard, Kaden Lowe bucketed 11, and Gavin Rybicki contributed 9 points.

Hubbard (0-2) had 7 treys in the game. The Warriors were 5-of-20 from the free-throw line.

Brookfield (1-1) is back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Columbiana. It's the home-opener for the Warriors.

Note: The Brookfield girls basketball home-opener is today against Mineral Ridge. JV game starts at noon followed by the varsity game.
