Bronson hoops teams each win on Tuesday

Both Bronson basketball teams won on the court Tuesday evening. The boys were on the road at Battle Creek St. Philip and the girls played host to Springport.

Bronson 69, BC St. Philip 33

The Bronson boys opened the season with a comfortable win over Battle Creek St. Philip on Tuesday, 69-33. Regan Mayer led all scorers with 28 points in the game, he connected for 10 points in the second quarter.

Bronson struggled out of the gate, scoring only six points in the first stanza and actually trailed St. Philip, 8-6, after one. Led by Mayer and Tanner Norton’s 11 points in the second quarter, Bronson posted 30 points and built a lead of 30-17 at the break.

St. Phil was held to just 12 points in the third and four points in the fourth quarter. Bronson’s highest-scoring quarter was the third, the Vikings posted 26. Mayer scored eight points in the third, Kamron Brackett scored six in the stanza and Jordan Shadix tossed in five.

Following Mayer’s 28, Norton finished with 17 and Brackett scored eight. Aden Hathaway chipped in seven points, Shadix finished with six and Boston Bucklin scored three.

Bronson was a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line in the game.

Bronson 66, Springport 28

The Bronson girls posted 19 first-quarter points and ran away from Springport on Tuesday, 66-28.

The Lady Vikings had solid scoring in each of the first three quarters in the game. Following 19 in the first, Bronson scored 19 more in the second and led 38-14 at the break.

Aubree Calloway scored 12 points in the opening half to lead the way, Haylie Wilson added eight points in the opening half.

Bronson’s 25 points in the third quarter were paced by Wilson with 15. Following the third quarter, the Lady Vikings held a 63-17 edge. A Jaydn Cary triple in the fourth quarter was all the scoring for Bronson in the final eight minutes.

Wilson led all scorers with 23 points, she handed out four assists with three steals and Calloway finished with 16 points and five rebounds. Brealyn Lasky tossed in 11 points, Cary finished in double figures with 10. Cary also had five assists and four steals in the game.

Helena Eley scored four points with four rebounds, Caitlyn Hagen tossed in two points. Payton Springstead hauled in six rebounds for Bronson.
