Bronson girls crush Concord with 58-33 score

Bronson controlled the first half on both ends of the floor and ran away with a 58-33 win over Concord on Thursday night.

The Lady Vikings scored in double figures in all four quarters while also holding Concord to single-digit scoring in the first three quarters of the game.

“When we play intense on the defensive end, good things happen,” Bronson coach Tony Lasky said. “Everybody wants to get cute and does different things, but if you can get more possessions and a few easy baskets, you’re gonna be successful and I think we’re starting to learn that a little bit more.”

Bronson shot 38.5 percent from the floor in the game, including knocking down just 3-of-14 triples. It didn’t seem to matter as the Vikings were able to take advantage of Concord miscues and inconsistencies.

The Viking lead was eight points at 13-5 after one quarter. Bronson’s second-highest scoring quarter of the night came in the second. There, the Lady Vikes connected for 16 points and led 29-12 at halftime.

Bronson would out-score Concord 10-9 in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter the game opened up a bit. Each team had its highest scoring quarter, Bronson poured in 19 while Concord finished with 12.

Haylie Wilson led Bronson with 23 points and six rebounds in the game. She connected for 9-of-12 free throws in the game. Aubree Calloway also finished in double figures with 10 points, she grabbed five rebounds. Helena Eley and Payton Springstead each scored five points with Springstead collecting six rebounds, Eley had four steals.

Addison Harris and Jaydn Cary both scored four points. Cary totaled seven assists with four steals and three rebounds. Kaylee Wilber hit a 3-pointer in the game, both Kaylee Carnes and Brealyn Lasky had two points.

Pittsford 44, Colon 37

The Pittsford girls poured in 22 points Thursday in the fourth quarter against Colon.

It doubled up the scoring from the previous three quarters. Pittsford beat Colon 44-37 in prep girl’s hoops action, breaking a 22-22 tie after three to win the game.

“We were plagued by turnovers in the second half, Pittsford started hitting shots and we just couldn’t recover,” Colon coach Beth Preston said. “We had too many missed opportunities and they took advantage of that.”

Both teams scored nine points in the first quarter, Colon’s 8-3 edge in the second gave the Magi a 17-12 edge at halftime.

Reese Williams led all scorers with 28 points, she hauled in eight rebounds as well. Macey Burgess scored three points while Isabelle Johnson, Jaden Adams and Megann Mullins each scored two.
