Broncos happy with Lloyd Cushenberry’s control and command of offense
The quarterback and the center are two of the most critical positions on the offensive side of the ball in football. The center and quarterback work together to make the correct calls and adjustments for the offense to succeed.
Broncos center Lloyd Cushenberry has a new quarterback in Russell Wilson, and both are working to get acclimated to a new system. In this process, Cushenberry has garnered acclaim from the coaching staff for his command of the offense.
Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett recently spoke on Cushenberry’s mastering his offense so far during camp.
“It’s funny because, for a center, he’s so quiet and he doesn’t talk much,” Hackett said on Aug. 1. “Then when he’s out there, his control and command of the offense has been really good. He understands the fronts, he understands the declarations, he understands the pass offs. He’s an unbelievably smart player and his physicality is pretty impressive, too.”
Hackett also spoke about how Cushenberry commands the offense and goes up against players like Dre’Mont Jones and Mike Purcell in practice.
“He’s probably having one of the hardest battles out on this field going against Mike, going against D.J., Dre’Mont. There are so many people and some really good players. He is tested nonstop. Our whole offensive line is getting some great work against that d-line. I really like him understanding the system. … He’s doing a fine job, and he’s really good.”
Cushenberry appears to be well on his way to success come Week 1.
