Britney Spears musical, ‘Once Upon a One More Time,’ set to open on Broadway next spring

The eagerly anticipated Britney Spears-themed musical will storm The Great White Way next spring.

“Once Upon a One More Time” will begin performances at Broadway’s Marquis Theatre May 13, 2023, producers announced Friday.

The jukebox musical, which premiered at Washington’s Shakespeare Theatre Company last year, pairs classic fairy tales with pop music anthems made famous by the Grammy winning pop music artist — such as “Oops I Did It Again,” “Toxic” and “Lucky.”

Directed and choreographed by internationally acclaimed artists Keone and Mari Madrid, the Jon Hartmere-scripted show has been described by producers as “an uproarious, irreverent look at the towering challenges, charms, and choices involved in finding that most elusive of endings: Happily Ever After.”

Spears, still in celebratory mode after being freed from a 13-year conservatorship, has given her stamp of approval to “Once Upon a One More Time.” She previously commented: “I’m so excited to have a musical with my songs — especially one that takes place in such a magical world filled with characters that I grew up on, who I love and adore. This is a dream come true for me!”

The legacy of the former chart topper is currently represented on Broadway in the recently-opened “& Juliet,” The modern take on what happens when one of Shakespeare’s most famous teenage lovers goes solo has a score full of contemporary pop staples like Spears’ 1999 No. 1 “Baby One More Time.”

Tickets for “Once Upon a One More Time” go on sale Dec. 5 to the general public; casting will be announced in the near future.
