Bright Eyes Announce Three More EPs of Re-Recorded Old Songs, Plus New Tour Dates
The post Bright Eyes Announce Three More EPs of Re-Recorded Old Songs, Plus New Tour Dates appeared first on Consequence.
Back in May, Bright Eyes shared three EPs comprising re-recorded versions of tracks from some of their earliest albums. Today, the archival project continues with the announcement of three more “companion” EPs, this time for 2002’s Lifted or the Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground and both of their 2005 albums I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning and Digital Ash in a Digital Urn. Ahead of the EPs’ respective releases on November 11th via Dead Oceans, the band has shared the updated recordings of “You Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will,” “Old Soul Song (for the New World Order),” and “Gold Mine Gutted” today.
Like their predecessors, this trio of EPs will see Conor Oberst update five tracks from each album, and then cover one song from an artist that was influential to Bright Eyes at the time of making the original. The band once again recruited some outside talent, with guest appearances from Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings, Becky Stark, and Maria Taylor.
So, if you’ve ever wondered what angsty aughts classics like “We Are Nowhere and It’s Now,” “The Big Picture,” or “Down In a Rabbit Hole” would sound like from a still-angsty 40-something, now you’ll know! Plus, we’ll hear Bright Eyes put their spin on “November” by Azure Ray, “Fare Thee Well, Miss Carousel” by Townes Van Zandt, and “Agenda Suicide” by The Faint.
Pre-orders for Lifted or the Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground: A Companion, I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning: A Companion, and Digital Ash in a Digital Urn: A Companion are ongoing. Below, stream Bright Eyes’ new versions of “You Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will.,” “Old Soul Song (for the New World Order),” and “Gold Mine Gutted,” and then keep scrolling to see the EPs’ full tracklists and artwork.
Bright Eyes have also announced new tour dates, including a leg of west coast shows taking place around the band’s appearance at Las Vegas’ When We Were Young Festival. Additionally, they’ve announced a few new shows along the eastern seaboard, including in Toronto, Montreal, Baltimore, and Philadelphia. Tickets for these new shows go on sale Friday, August 12th via Ticketmaster.
