Licking County recycled 6 million pounds in 2021

NEWARK — Licking County residents recycled more than six million pounds of material during 2021, Licking County Recycling Director Andrea Krava announced.

Materials were collected in the 24 public drop off recycling sites throughout the county and throughout government buildings. Rumpke of Ohio, Inc. empties the bins and sorts material for processing. CFLP Solid Waste District and the Licking County Board of Commissioners fund the Licking County recycling program.

Residents are encouraged to understand what is accepted in the recycling bins so items can be properly separated and eventually re-used. Dumping of bulk items inside or outside of the bins is illegal.

The following materials are accepted: Cardboard boxes; paperboard; office paper; junk mail and envelopes; cartons (milk and juice, not eggs); glass bottles and jars; plastic bottles, jugs, and tubs; aluminum cans; steel cans.

Cardboard was the most prominent item found in the bins during the Rumpke audit. To save space in bins, residents are urged to break down and flatten cardboard boxes before putting the cardboard into the bins.
