Burt & Company CPAs, LLC, has promoted three employees to partner:

Tammy Jaramillo, who has been with the firm for nearly 20 years, where she will oversee the operations of the firm. Prior to her role at Burt & Company, Jaramillo spent 18 years in the defense industry in various human resource, marketing, and administrative roles. She is involved in the community as well, having served as an ambassador for Albuquerque Economic Development from 2002-2016 and chair of ambassadors from 2011-2014. Jaramillo is Past President for the Human Resources Management Association of New Mexico. She was the founder and board president of the New Mexico chapter of the Association of Accounting Administrators. In addition, she was Junior Achievement volunteer and was named 2013 Woman of Influence by Albuquerque Business First. She graduated magna cum laude from the College of Santa Fe with a bachelor's in business administration.

Misty Schuck, CPA, CGMA, CFE, CGFM, CICA, who has been with the firm for more than eight years, will oversee the business services department. She has more than 30 years of experience in the private sector and in public accounting. She graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a bachelor's of business administration in accounting. Schuck is a Certified Public Accountant in New Mexico and is a member of the New Mexico Society of CPAs, American Institute of CPAs, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, National Association of Government Accountants, Association of Government Accountants — NM & Albuquerque Chapters and the Institute for Internal Controls. Schuck is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant, Certified Government Financial Manager, Certified Fraud Examiner and a Certified Internal Control Auditor. She has extensive involvement in public service and currently serves as a director on the board of NM Society of CPAs, board treasurer of Storehouse West, board treasurer of Blackout Theatre, board treasurer for NM Chapter of AGA, Council for the Advancement of Women of AGA, Past-President of the NM Chapter of AGA and a financial standards reviewer/grant panelist for the United Way of Central NM.

Matt Pacheco, CPA, who has been with Burt & Company for more than 10 years. He will oversee the tax department. Pacheco specializes in corporate and personal tax, as well as business succession planning. He recently completed all requirements for the Accredited Estate Planner certification. Prior to joining Burt & Company, he was with Grant Thornton LLP. He graduated from the University of New Mexico Anderson School of Business with a Bachelor's in Accounting. Pacheco is a Certified Public Accountant in New Mexico and is actively involved with the New Mexico State Society of CPAs and is also a current board member of the New Mexico Estate Planning Council.

Sheila Hernandez has been named the new senior vice president, customer experience officer for Summit Electric Supply. Hernandez joined Summit in 1987 as a part-time marketing intern while completing her undergraduate degree at the University of New Mexico. After earning her MBA, she took on the roles of marketing coordinator, director of marketing, vice president of marketing, and chief information & technology officer before being named to her new position. Hernandez also led Summit's internet presence, mobile app development, and the technology team.

WELCOME

Michael Caldwell has been hired as director of sales and marketing by A-Tech Security. Caldwell has more than 20 years of experience in the security industry, and was the owner of Select Security before selling his company to and joining the team at Armed Response Team. Caldwell has a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of New Mexico.

Michael Aufdembrink has been named Albuquerque-based Summit Electric Supply's new chief information officer. Aufdembrink has more than 25 years of experience developing IT/digital strategy, large application implementation, infrastructure, program management, cyber/risk management, plus proficiency with mergers & acquisitions. He previously served in CIO roles at Baker Hughes, Energizer Holdings, HCA Corp., Sara Lee Corp., and Parallon Revenue Cycle Solutions. Aufdembrink's responsibilities at Summit will include digital strategy, information technology operations, and cybersecurity. He holds a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology, and both a master's of science in information systems and a master's of business administration from the University of Missouri — St. Louis. Aufdembrink will work out of Summit's Houston office.

Dr. Ruben Ayala is the 2021 winner of the Montezuma College, United World College-USA Giulio Regeni Alumni Impact Award. Ayala, who is based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is the chief medical officer for global surgical nonprofit Operation Smile. UWC-USA is based in Montezuma.

Carlos Duque, Vice President, Financial Adviser and Financial Planning Specialist in Morgan Stanley's Albuquerque office, now holds the Insurance Planning Director designation after completing the firm's insurance accreditation program. Recipients of the IPD designation have demonstrated a commitment to, and understanding of, holistic goals-based wealth management planning through the incorporation of insurance solutions into their practice as a foundational component of risk management.
