Brick Memorial boys basketball stays hot in Class A South action

The Brick Memorial boys basketball team fended off Southern Regional in a Class A South game on Tuesday night.

Luke Braaten scored seven of his team-high 13 points in the second half and finished with 15 rebounds and Dorian Alston added seven of his 11 points in the first half as the Mustangs defeated the Rams, 46-37, to gain their fourth win in the last five games.

Josh Michigan scored all of his eight points in the second half, Jason Ellerbrock added all seven of his points in the fourth quarter and Jeremiah Crispin had six points.

Southern's Nick Devane had 12 points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals while Jaden Anthony had 11 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Manalapan 79, Middletown South 62: Gabe Blackwell's all-around effort (23 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks) pushed the Braves (4-6) past the Eagles (3-7). Michael Cerreto added 17 points, Mike Bimonte added 12 points and Jim Bruno had nine points. Manalapan snapped a three-game losing streak. Middletown South's Dylan Csik had a game-high 25 points, James Mayerhofer added 12 points and Tommy Schork added 10 points.

Pinelands 60, Lakewood 44: The Wildcats (4-2) jumped out to a 34-17 halftime lead as Daniel McCarthy (23 points, seven rebounds) and Rian O'Rourke (20 points) powered the effort against the Piners (0-6). Also, Darren Barreau had eight points and seven assists and Aiden Skeie had six points and eight rebounds. Lakewood's Derrick Marsh had 18 points and Lamir Clark had nine points.

Marlboro 72, Freehold Township 61: Jack Seidler led three players in double figures with 22 points as the Mustangs (10-2) won their third game in row after holding off the Patriots (6-5). Jonathan Spatola added 20 points and Vincent Spatola added 12 points. In addition, Jay Ratner and Zach Molod each had nine points. Freehold Township's Jayden Holmes-Cotter had a team-high 23 points while Josh Ibarreta and Sean Keegan each tallied 15 points.

Raritan 59, Matawan 38: The Rockets (6-2) reeled off their fourth victory in five games as Jack Coleman led the way with 13 points on 6-for-7 shooting from the field. Tyzaya Smith and Jack O'Leary each added 12 points while Justin (12 points) and Justin Rivera added 11 points. Matawan's Chauncy Brown and Amir Martinez each had 11 points for the Huskies (1-11).

Keyport 64, Point Beach 59: DJ Thomson scored 26 points, Anthony Longo added 10 points and George Mitchell added eight points as the Red Raiders (7-1) defeated the Garnet Gulls (4-2), who were led by Anthony Longo's 19 points while Andrew Seaman and Andrew Laumbach each had nine points.

Middletown North 64, Freehold 33: Tommy Giannone had a game-high 19 points while Matt Kenny added 12 points as the Lions (4-4) defeated the Colonials (0-12), who were led by Christian DiGiso (11 points, two rebounds, one steal) and Timmy Springer (seven points, six rebounds, one steal).

Keansburg 57, Henry Hudson 35: The Titans (2-5) snapped a two-game losing streak as Michael Alonso led three players in double figures with 20 points. Andrew Valle added 14 points and Jaheim Hill added 10 points. Demitrius Harvey and Jax Ross each had 10 points for Henry Hudson (1-7).

Donovan Catholic 55, Central 53: The Griffins (7-3) gained their fourth win in a row as Vin Coburn had a team-high 11 points. Dan Schwartz and Alex Melon combined for 17 points. Central's Justin Soranno finished with a game-high 26 points, including the 1,000th point of his career. He now has 1,019 career points. Also, Miles Chevalier had 18 points.

St. John Vianney 68, Red Bank 59: The Class B North-leading Lancers (12-2) defeated the Bucs (4-5) as Nate Williams finished with 24 points and five steals. Teammate Omar Calderon added 17 points and 10 rebounds and Justice Brayboy and Jordan Winnik each had eight points. Red Bank's Nick Valentino had a team-high 23 points, Collin Teter added 18 points and Tommy Keegan added nine points.

Manchester 73, Lacey 52: The Hawks (8-2) recorded their fifth win in a row as D'Maari Brown produced 25 points on the strength of five three-pointers. Savon Myers added 23 points and 16 rebounds and Amari Ayala-Petty added seven points, nine assists and five steals. Lacey's Chris Venturoso finished with a game-high 27 points, Logan Brash added 12 points and Dylan Hall had five assists.

Jackson Liberty 39 Ocean 32: Phanique Dupree guided the Lions (7-3) to their third win in the last four games as he finished with a team-high 10 points. In addition, Dylan Teopaco chipped in seven points and Dallas Weisse and Channing Williams each contributed six points and Connor Gallagher netted five points. Ocean's Ron Richardson led all scorers with 11 points and he also had four rebounds and three assists and Zayier Dean had eight points, two rebounds and four assists.

Neptune 47, Colts Neck 42: Jahmil Miranda (13 points) sank three free throws in the last 30 seconds and Jason Neal had 10 points as the Scarlet Fliers (3-5) secured a victory over the Cougars (5-4), who were led by Will Surdez (19 points) and Michael Belcher (11 points).
