Brian Smith: Kutztown, Twin Valley, Conrad Weiser win in District 3 softball playoffs

May 24—Kutztown turned one hit, a walk, a hit batter and two errors into three runs to break a tie on the way to a 5-2 win over Oley Valley in a District 3 Class 3A quarterfinal Monday at Kutztown Park.

The second-seeded Cougars (17-5) will host third-seeded Bermudian Springs, an 8-0 winner over Annville-Cleona Monday, in a semifinal Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

The seventh-seeded Lynx (8-12) scored two runs in the first before Kutztown tied it with two in the second.

Meaghan Dietrich went 1-for-2 with a run and Brittany Noecker 1-for-1 with a run for the Cougars, who had five hits.

Joelle Glick went 2-for-2 and Kendall Rohrbach 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Lynx, who also had five hits.

Oley made four errors, while Kutztown committed two.

Twin Valley 5, Solanco 1: At Quarryville, the 11th-seeded Raiders (15-7) scored three runs in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie on the way to the win over the sixth-seeded Golden Mules (14-6) in a District 3 Class 5A first-round game.

Twin Valley will travel to third-seeded Lampeter-Strasburg (15-4) for a quarterfinal game Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The Pioneers beat No. 14 Northern York 6-3 Monday.

Conrad Weiser 8, Kennard-Dale 4: At Robesonia, the eighth-seeded Scouts (12-8) had 15 hits in beating the ninth-seeded Rams (11-10) in a District 3 Class 4A first-round game.

Emily Karetas and winning pitcher Kailee Richmond each went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Alex Trevena went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and three RBIs, and Abby Frantz was 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Weiser.

The Scouts, who won their first district game since 2015, will travel to top-seeded Hamburg (16-4), which had a first-round bye, for a quarterfinal game Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Manheim Township 12, Gov. Mifflin 0 (5): At Neffsville, the ninth-seeded Mustangs (12-9) managed just three hits in the District 3 Class 6A first-round loss to the eighth-seeded Blue Streaks (12-9).

Manheim Township scored one run in the first, four in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth.

Warwick 4, Wilson 3: At Lititz, the sixth-seeded Warriors (13-5) scored three runs in the fourth to overcome a 3-1 deficit on the way to the win over the 11th-seeded Bulldogs (9-10) in a District 3 Class 6A first-round game.

For Wilson, Tatum Werley went 3-for-4 with a double and a run, Abigail Horace was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Abby Meinhold was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
