Brian Kelly gives update on LSU football ahead of SEC Championship Game vs Georgia

BATON ROUGE - Brian Kelly described LSU football's state of the program as a "conscious competence" ahead of the SEC Championship Game.

The Tigers (9-3) take on No. 1 Georgia (12-0) on Saturday (3 p.m., CBS) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

"We know what to do, we know how to do it, but it's really hard for us and we want to get to where it's unconscious competence," Kelly said Monday.

"We don't have to think about it. It's just we do it and we do it the right way every day. I think it's still a process for us."

Kelly added that this first year at LSU has always been about setting new expectations and standards for the program. Establishing those would always take time.

"It's like anything in life, you go to a new business or new operation (that has) a new way of doing things," Kelly said. "You know, that just takes time."

LSU had a bump in the road in that process last week when the Tigers fell to Texas A&M 38-23 last week.

Kelly provides injury updates on Jayden Daniels, Josh Williams and Jarrick Bernard-Converse

According to Kelly, Josh Williams will be back for the SEC Championship Game. Williams also said during a teleconference on Monday that he is "pretty confident" that he'll be available.

With only two healthy scholarship running backs over the last two weeks in John Emery Jr. and Noah Cain, Williams' return to the lineup will be welcomed.

Bernard-Converse will be a non-contact participant during Tuesday's practice after missing last week's game with a concussion, Kelly said.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels is still in a walking boot after suffering an ankle injury against Texas A&M. His ankle will be tested on Tuesday and if he can "get on his toes," then he should be ready to play, according to Kelly.
