Boys tennis roundup: NLS cruises past LQPV/D-B, 7-0

May 17—NEW LONDON — The New London-Spicer boys tennis team made quick work of Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd on Monday, winning 7-0.

All the victories were in straight sets, though the doubles matches were close.

At No. 1 doubles, the Wildcats' Jack Noeldner and Matt Monson beat Levi Olson and Gavin Stulz 6-1, 7-5.

Jack Barney won at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-2 over Liam Risch and Jowell Gamez won at No. 3 singles over Matthew Martinson 6-3, 6-2.

Litchfield swept the singles and won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles in the non-conference victory at St. Peter.

Alex Drager, Mason Woelfel, Garrison Jackman and Nathan Wuotila all earned singles victories for the Dragons.

Perhaps the closest match came at No. 2 doubles. Litchfield's Brady Cannon and Eli Schacherer beat Andres Dixon and Tyson Schmitz 6-2, 7-6 (6).

Willmar is the fifth seed in the South Sub-Section 8AA tournament and plays No. 4 seed Big Lake at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Becker.

The Big Lake/Willmar winner then plays top-seeded Becker at about 4:30 p.m.

The seeds were announced Monday.

Other South matches include No. 3 Monticello vs. No. 6 Sauk Rapids at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Cloud Tech. The winners second-seeded Tech at 4:30 p.m.

In North Sub-Secton 8AA, No. 4 Moorhead plays No. 5 Detroit Lakes at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bemidji. The winner plays the top-seeded Lumberjacks at 4:30 p.m.

And, No. 2 Alexandria plays host to No. 3 Sartell at 4:30 p.m.

The final two rounds are Thursday at Sartell and Tech. It's North No. 1 vs. South No. 2 at Sartell and South No. 1 vs. North No. 2 at Tech. The final is 4 p.m. at Sartell.

At stake is a berth in the state Class AA tournament June 7 at the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis.
