BOYS TENNIS: Jacks through to Section 8AA semifinals after rain-shortened win

May 18—DETROIT LAKES — The Bemidji High School boys tennis team is through to the next round of the Section 8AA Team Tournament. The North No. 1 seed Lumberjacks defeated North No. 4 seed Detroit Lakes 4-1 in a weather-shortened section quarterfinal in DL on Wednesday.

BHS (18-1) clinched Wednesday's win thanks to singles victories by Matthieu Benhamou at No. 1 (6-2, 6-0); John McNallan at No. 3 (6-1, 6-1); and Casey Rupp at No. 4 (6-1, 6-1). Seth Lindgren and Reed Johnson also picked up a team point at No. 3 doubles (6-1, 6-1).

No. 2 singles Noah Johnson and No. 2 doubles pair Aidan Larson and Jack McNallan were unable to finish their matches due to thunderstorms in the area.

"The rain and thunder and lightning rolled in," BHS head coach Kyle Fodness said. "We called it there because there might be some rain later, so we had to call it off."

Bemidji advances to the Section 8AA semifinals and will next face off against either South No. 2 seed St. Cloud or South No. 3 seed Monticello at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 20, in Sartell. The Section 8AA team championship is also scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday in Sartell.
