Boys basketball roundup: PH Northern's freshman trio combines for 70 points in win

Here are some notable results from Friday's boys basketball games in the Blue Water Area.

Port Huron Northern 85, New Haven 82 (OT)

Three freshmen scored 20 or more points for the Huskies in this overtime victory. And no, that's not a typo.

Alex Jamison dropped a game-high 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Northern, which improved to 14-1 overall and 10-0 in the MAC White. Amir Morelan posted a 22-point, 10-assist double-double while Cam Harju totaled 20 points.

Perhaps most impressive is that the Huskies prevailed in the absence of leading scorer Tyler Jamison, who was out with an illness.

Up next for Northern is a home game against Grosse Pointe North at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Port Huron 56, St. Clair Shores Lakeview 42

The Big Reds erased a 12-point deficit in the second quarter to make it a game. And then they sent the Huskies packing with a double-digit loss.

Garrett James led the way with 20 points for Port Huron, which improved 9-6 overall and 7-2 in the MAC Silver. Conner Rosenau tallied 16 points and Jaiden Ashford added eight. The win gives the Big Reds sole possession of first place in the conference.

But there isn't much time to rest, as they'll face Harrison Township L'Anse Creuse at noon on Saturday. That game will be played at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

Brown City 43, Memphis 22

Gaden Muxlow put on a clinic with a game-high 28 points for the Green Devils, who improved to 14-1 overall and 8-0 in the GTC East. Callen Hagey chipped in five points and Clint Ford added four.

The Yellowjackets fell to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in the GTC East. They were led by Cody Rembowski's seven points. James Whitten contributed five points and two steals.

Brown City will visit Otisville LakeVille Memorial at 7 p.m. on Monday. Memphis is idle until it hosts Marlette at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Detroit Loyola 67, Cardinal Mooney 49

The Cardinals came up short against the Catholic High School League's juggernaut.

Trent Rice poured in a team-high 15 points for Cardinal Mooney, which fell to 7-8 overall. Brian Everhart followed with 14 points while Dominic Cattivera amassed 11 points and eight rebounds.

Up next for the Cardinals is a home game against Clarkston Everest Collegiate at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Peck 53, Bay City All Saints 46

Cal Heiden finished with 15 points and led a balanced scoring attack for the Pirates, who improved to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in the NCTL Stars.

Dalton Sempf and Brady Babcock both chipped in 14 points while Steve VanConant added nine.

Peck will travel to Bad Axe at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Armada 37, Almont 27 (girls basketball)

Ashlyn Upton recorded a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double for the Tigers, who improved to 10-7 overall and 6-4 in the BWAC. Darrah McKenzie also had a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. Sydney Upton totaled 12 points.

The Raiders fell to 8-9 overall and 4-6 in the BWAC. Grace Koening led the way with an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double. Jesse Kautz followed with six points and six boards.

Armada will visit Utica Eisenhower at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Almont will travel to Bad Axe at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Imlay City 54, Richmond 18 (girls basketball)

Chloe Bruman finished with 15 points, six rebounds and three steals for the Spartans, who improved to 13-4 overall and 8-2 in the BWAC. Makayla Bruman chipped in 12 points, six boards and five steals.

As for the Blue Devils, they dropped to 3-12 overall and 1-9 in the BWAC.

Richmond will head to New Baltimore Anchor Bay at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Up next for Imlay City is a home game against Croswell-Lexington at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Yale 42, Croswell-Lexington 35 (girls basketball)

The Bulldogs found just enough offense to hold on for the victory. They improved to 10-7 overall and 6-4 in the BWAC. Abbi Dykstra led the charge with 11 points.

Isabella Edwards scored a game-high 13 points for the Pioneers, who fell to 7-9 overall and 4-6 in the BWAC.

Cros-Lex will look to regroup when it visits Brown City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Yale, it'll travel to Algonac at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
