Boys basketball: Lima Senior charges back to be Shawnee

Jan. 23—A lot can change in just a few minutes. Take Lima Senior's 71-67 boys basketball win over Shawnee on Saturday night at Lappin Gymnasium for example.

Shawnee came out of its locker room at halftime with a nine-point lead and had never been behind in the first two quarters.

Three minutes later, after the Spartans scored 14 unanswered points to start the second half they were ahead 36-31 and never were behind the rest of the way.

Lima Senior outscored the Indians 28-9 in the third quarter and its lead got to as many as 10 points before a late Shawnee rally cut the final margin to four points. Lima Senior had four 3-pointers in its big third quarter. It forced eight turnovers in the third quarter.

Camren Miles scored 22 points to lead Lima Senior (12-2). Khalil Luster had 12 points and Brent Moss had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Brady Wheeler's 25 points led Shawnee (9-5). Austin Miller had 15 points.

Lima Senior bounced back from a 60-57 loss to Toledo Whitmer on Friday night and Shawnee's offense made a big turnaround after scoring only 24 points in a 57-24 loss to St. Marys on Friday night.

Shawnee jumped to out a 31-22 halftime lead after starting the game with a 6-0 run in the first 2 1/2 minutes.

The Indians never were behind in the first two quarters. Their smallest lead was four points early in the second quarter. Their biggest led was 12 points at 29-17 after a 3-pointer by Anthony Best with a minute left in the first half.

Lima Senior struggled shooting the ball in the first half when it hit just 6 of 25 field goal attempts. The Spartans also had more turnovers (10) than Shawnee had (8). Shawnee hit 11 of 25 on field goals in the first two quarters.
