Boys basketball: Knappa rallies past Warrenton, 38-35

Dec. 5—In a Clatsop Clash boys basketball season opener Friday night at Knappa, the Loggers rallied in the fourth quarter for a 38-35 win over Warrenton.

The points were hard to come by for both teams, as the Warriors struggled from the field, while the Loggers made their first free throw, but missed their next nine and finished 8-for-22. The two teams missed a combined 26 free throws.

Warrenton led the majority of the game, including a 15-7 lead early in the second quarter following seven straight points from Dawson Little; and two free throws by Brian Xochipitecatl had the Warriors in front 28-15 with 4:54 left in the third.

Knappa outscored Warrenton 11-4 in the final 2:45 of regulation, which included a 3-pointer by Jude Miller with 2:26 remaining that tied the game 31-31, and layups by Miller and Jacob Ogier in the final 1:39.

The Loggers also managed to make 7-of-13 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Ilwaco defeated Warrenton 63-33 Saturday, as Beckett Turner led the Fishermen with 28 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists.
