BOYNE CITY — Area cities and towns are seemingly back to summer plans as events are being slowly announced. Included in the mix is the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce, which has just announced its summer music series lineup.

The series — formerly known as the Gazebo Summer Concert Series — last year moved from Old City Park to Veterans Park to allow for more space, restrooms and a more comfortable atmosphere all around where people could better socially distance themselves.

This year's series has also been extended, bringing more bands and live music to the town and park this summer.

"We try to fest it up each year and this year of course have some local favorites coming back as well as a handful of new acts," said Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce associate director Lisa Luebke.

"This year we have 12 groups performing and I think this will be our longest season yet," she said.

This year, the summer music series takes place from 6:30-8 p.m. and kicks off on Wednesday, June 15 with each show taking place outside of the pavilion in Veterans Park (or inside if there's inclement weather) and continues each Wednesday through Aug. 31.

The lineup is as follows:

  • June 15 — Full Moon Jam Band

  • June 22 — Nelson Olstrom

  • June 29 — James Michael Duo

  • July 6 — The Third Degree

  • July 13 — Wyatt & Shari Knapp

  • July 20 — The Hazel James Band

  • July 27 — Billy McAllister

  • Aug. 3 — Nelson Olstrom

  • Aug. 10 — On Tap

  • Aug. 17 — Matt Gabriel

  • Aug. 24 — The Real Ingredients

  • Aug. 31 — Full Moon Jam Band

One of the newcomers to the series this year includes area rock band The Third Degree, which lead singer Abbey Byrne said is ".. .really excited to be included in the lineup this summer."

"We always love playing in Boyne City and have been fortunate to have played at Stroll the Streets for the last couple years. This is our first show at the pavilion and we can't wait to share our music on a Boyne summer night," she said.

Each of the upcoming shows through the summer are free of charge thanks to the chamber's sponsor Black Diamond Broadcasting and to patrons of the series who help fund it through a donation jar at each show.

"We are looking forward to hearing all of the groups and the ones that haven't performed in the series before," said Luebke. "It's always a great time here in Boyne and we hope for good weather and good crowds all summer long."
