Boulder County rescinds fire restrictions in wake of wet weather

May 23—Boulder County has rescinded its Stage 1 fire restrictions following wet and cooler weather in the area.

The fire restrictions had been in place since April 22, but Boulder County saw more moisture in May along with a snowstorm over the weekend. As a result, Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle lifted the restrictions effective immediately, according to a release.

"Recent snow and rain storms have increased the relative humidity within the county and impacted fuels moisture, which has decreased the fire danger," sheriff's officials said in a statement. "Relying on the competent scientific evidence provided by the National Weather Service, the Boulder County sheriff has determined the conditions are such that fire restrictions are no longer necessary in unincorporated Boulder County."

There are still permit requirements in place for slash burning and other prescribed burns. Permits are available online at bouldercounty.org/safety/fire/pages/openburnpermit.aspx or at the Boulder County Sheriff's Office Headquarters, 5600 Flatiron Parkway in Boulder, or the sheriff's office fire cache, 3116 Longhorn Road in Boulder.
