Boulder County

—Sugarloaf Road. Due to an unsafe and confined work zone, Sugarloaf Road will need to be closed between Colo. 119 and Betasso Road during the following times for the next four weeks: 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sugarloaf Road will remain open in a single-lane configuration through the work zone during all other hours. Boulder County is currently working on the last 2013 flood recovery-related project on Sugarloaf Road. The project involves the construction of five retaining walls, drainage improvements, and reconstruction of approximately 2,000 feet of roadway just up from Colo. 119 and will include a 4-foot shoulder in the uphill lane. In addition, CO 119/Boulder Canyon Drive will be reduced to one lane during working hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday). The project is anticipated to last into October, weather permitting.

—Annual paving operations: Work will take place in the following order: 79th Street between Colo. 52 and Niwot Road; Monarch Road between 79th Street and the Diagonal Highway (Colo. 119); 73rd Street between the Diagonal Highway and Niwot Road; Niwot Road between the Diagonal Highway and 73rd Street; 63rd Street between Jay Road and the City of Boulder limits; Second Avenue in Niwot; and Valmont Road between Boulder Creek and 61st Street. Construction on each segment will take approximately one week, with the exception of Second Avenue in Niwot, which should take two to three days. Paving operations will include milling of old road surface and adding a layer of new asphalt. Motorists and cyclists can expect single-lane closures in work zones. Flaggers will be used to guide travelers safely around construction operations; expect delays and use caution when passing through the zone. Work will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and is expected to last through August, weather permitting.

—Olde Stage Road Project: A large repaving project has begun for Olde Stage Road between Lee Hill and Lefthand Canyon drives. In addition to repaving all of Olde Stage Road, work will include widening the southern portion of the road for a four-foot shoulder to be installed in the uphill lane to provide more room for cyclists, pedestrians, emergency services providers and disabled vehicles. Drainage improvements will also be installed. The road will be reduced to one lane in multiple sections during working hours, which will result in travel delays of up to 15 minutes. Old asphalt will be milled, so speed is reduced on rough surfaces. Cyclists may consider avoiding Olde Stage Road during construction. Driveways may be inaccessible for up to 30 minutes during paving as asphalt must be allowed to cool before it can be safely crossed by motor vehicles. Crews will coordinate with homeowners during the project. This is the final phase of a larger Olde Stage Road reconstruction project that included the creation of two large retaining walls and the replacement of a culvert at Six Mile Creek with a larger and stronger structure that will accommodate larger flows during potential flood events. Work will take place between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays. The project is expected to last into October.

The restrooms at LaMont Does parking lot are also closed. Temporary restrooms are available in the Saratoga Drive parking lot.

—South Boulder Road: South Boulder Road is in a two-way/head-to-head configuration on the north side of the road. Eastbound and westbound traffic will continue to use this configuration while crews install the storm sewer pipe. Westbound South Boulder Road at Saratoga and Merlin drives will have one through travel lane and one left turn only travel lane. Prepare for delays in the area.

—RTD bus stop: RTD bus riders who use the stop on South Boulder Road at Robin Hood Street can catch the bus at the next stop on Sir Galahad Drive at South Boulder Road. Traffic must stay on designated paths.

Longmont

—Longs Peak Avenue. The road will be temporarily widened between Sunset Street and the Sunset Pool parking lot, and the two lanes of traffic will be shifted to the south so that construction equipment can be parked on the north side of Longs Peak Avenue. There will also be initial work on the waterline that runs underneath Sunset Circle. Residents and commuters should plan for the following construction activities through August during the work hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
