Nancy Foltz-Beck announces the release of 'Rusty Anchors'
EAGLE, Idaho, May 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Nancy Foltz-Beck has always had a keen interest in family history, genealogy, journaling, and adventure. She shares personal experiences of yesterday, of family life, lived — and missed. It is, for this reason, she has written "Rusty Anchors" (published by Balboa Press).
This semi-autobiographical book introduces readers to the Foltz family, military people who lived a somewhat nomadic life, often required by defenders of freedom. Foltz-Beck's father, Seaman First Class Harold W. Foltz, was a sailor in the United States Navy, sworn to follow orders. When worsening events indicated the navy was shipping out, what would become of his young family? Madelaine was alone on foreign soil in pre-war China, pregnant, injured, and afraid. As newlyweds, the couple faced a frightening reality; they were unprepared for invaders' orders to evacuate immediately or face the reality of a concentration camp, or the distinct possibility of being shot.
Madelaine's one-way ticket from San Francisco to Shanghai held no contingencies for a safe passage home in cases of political unrest, or worse. Overloaded modes of transportation were quickly filled with anxious, frightened refugees scrambling to find any means of passage out of the country, but not Madelaine. She had insufficient funds, and far from home, had no viable means of safety. No one could have predicted the storm clouds of war would become so personal, but they did. Forlorn, terrified, and nearly penniless, the couple turned to the only source of eternal truth for answers, God, knowing it would take much more than first-rate dragon luck to save her life.
"Our posterities will never know family histories unless we write them -- how, during the war years, many were affected by infrequent communications through radio, newsreels, personal letters, and newspaper accounts unless we record them. Lest we forget, we were never completely alone. We are proud of having been a military family of a bygone era," Foltz-Beck says. When asked what she wants readers to take from this book, she replies, "Hope." "These stories of yesterday's trials will empower readers to connect and recouple with exceptional ancestors who made our present-day lives, and freedoms reality. Through the recent worldwide pandemic, many seem to have experienced diminished faith. It needn't be so. For the youth of today, be strong in the face of seemingly insurmountable barbs of adversity. You are the hope of tomorrow, prepared to come forth in these perilous times, endowed with remarkable abilities. Never underestimate yourselves or feel you are alone. Future generations are counting on your ability to live and experience life well."
