Bolton schools plan for in-person return in early May

Apr. 10—BOLTON — Educators and school staff who want the COVID-19 vaccine had their second doses this week, setting town schools up for the planned return to in-school learning in May.

Superintendent Kristin Heckt told the Board of Education on Thursday that second doses were administered to school staff Wednesday. After several staff members said they felt unwell the day following their doses, Bolton public schools went virtual Friday to mitigate staffing issues.

The superintendent thanked school staff and officials, notably Director of Human Resources Beth Goldsnider, for making sure vaccine clinics were organized and went smoothly.

"I'm thrilled that our staff are vaccinated, I'm sorry that so many of them are having such difficulty," Heckt said.

Following April vacation, Heckt said Bolton students would be fully remote from April 26-28 to take into consideration any families or staff traveling during the break.

On Monday, May 10, Bolton schools will return to a five-day schedule of in-person learning. Families and students who have opted to continue virtual learning can continue to do so.

In terms of end-of-the-year events and activities, principals of both Bolton Center and Bolton High schools said they're still waiting on some guidance from the state. Once details are more ironed out, plans will be shared with families.

Bolton High School Principal Joseph Maselli said staff have been working with senior class advisers about things like prom.

"We have reserved venues, we've got lots of options open," Maselli said. "We are currently awaiting guidance from the Department of Public Health before we make decisions."
