Boil water notices in Lee County: What you need to know as recovery continues after hurricane Ian

As of Sunday night, Oct. 2, a boil water notice remains in effect for all customers of Lee County Utilities, as well as other utilities serving Lee County.

Here's the status of water systems in the area:

  • Customers of some utilities — such as FGUA in Lehigh and Bonita Springs Utilities — no longer have to boil water.

  • The City of Fort Myers: Please note that a boil water notice is in effect citywide, as our infrastructure has been affected by Hurricane Ian.

  • The City of Cape Coral: Ware reminding residents on City utilities that we are under a precautionary Citywide boil water notice. Water is safe to use for showering, but bottled water should be used to drink and brush teeth. For residents who do have working City water, we are asking you to refrain from using it unless necessary while the City repressurizes the drinking water distribution system. Please do not wash your car, boat, or pressure wash driveways, houses, windows, etc. Please call 311 to report the location of any water or sewer leaks. Our crews are working diligently to fix issues across the City.

Sanibel Island, Pine Island and Fort Myers Beach currently do not have running water.

Always check with your utility to determine your status — but if you do not know, continue to boil as a precaution.

If you see a crew working on a water issue, please do not approach them unless there is an emergency situation. Let them complete their work so they can quickly move on to the next water leak.
