Body recovered from Neuse River near West Craven Middle School

A body was recovered from the Neuse River Monday after a car went off the boat ramp on Northwest Craven Middle School Road.

According to information from the NC Highway Patrol, the agency was notified Monday by Craven County Emergency Management that a vehicle was in the Neuse River at the Spring Garden boat ramp. The highway patrol responded to assist and the car was pulled from the water.

NC State Highway Patrol 1st Sergeant Edwards confirmed that a body was recovered from the river. He said the family members had been notified and a search for a possible second person was ongoing.

Search crews, including a dive team, were on the scene throughout the day Monday and were assisted by aerial drones.

As of Tuesday morning no further update was available from the highway patrol.
