Blue Jays get six points in WDA standings this weekend

Dec. 5—The bus ride back from Hazen was bound to be a pretty fun one for the Jamestown High School boys hockey team.

"We played a pretty good hockey game today overall," JHS head hockey coach Matt Stockert said. "We did what we needed to against a team that is a little bit young and rebuilding. We did a nice job of moving the puck around and played full 13 forwards and five defensemen."

The Blue Jays shutout Hazen/Beulah 10-0 on Saturday to move to 3-0 in the West Region standings. Jamestown defeated Bottineau 6-1 on Friday evening and topped Bismarck Legacy 5-3 on Tuesday. Stockert's squad's next test is slated to come against long-time rival, Bismarck High, on Thursday. The Demons and Jays will face off at 7:30 p.m. at Wilson Arena.

Nolan Nenow once again got the Jays on the board early. The junior notched both goals in the first period and the first score of the second period. The double-digit goal count was credited to eight different scorers. Nenow was the only one to score more than one goal.

The dynamic Blue Jay offense put up almost 75 shots on net. Parker Frei, the netminder in the first and second, made 36 stops while Jacob Bonebrake made 23 saves. Andrew Walz stood in goal for the Blue Jays, stopping all 15 shots the Northstars wacked his way.

"Andrew played well in net today getting the shutout," Stockert said. "Kudos to him.

"We got six points on the weekend in the West Region standings and we'll get back to work on Monday and look forward to hosting BHS on Friday."
