Blue Jays Roundup: Hockey unable to find twine in a shootout
Feb. 2—BISMARCK — Game No. 1 of the Jamestown High School boys hockey team's home-and-home against Bismarck Century didn't end quite the way the Jays wanted.
The Blue Jays dropped in a 2-0 shootout against the Patriots Thursday evening. The squad now stands at 8-6-2 overall and 7-5-2 in the West Region. Head coach Matt Stockert and the boys will be back at Wilson Arena on Friday, hosting Century. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Jamestown raced out to a fast start with senior Brooks Roaldson scoring off a pair of assists from Nate Walz and Gavin Gerhardt. About eight minutes after Roaldson scored, Century tied things up with a goal from Maxon Vig. The period ended with the two teams knotted up at one goal apiece.
While Century scored with less than a minute gone in the second, Jamestown re-took control of the middle frame. Tyson Jorissen, Nate Walz and Easton Romsdal all scored to put the Jays up 4-2 but TJ Olson pulled the Patriots within one by scoring at the 17-minute mark of the second.
Century's Andrew Brubakken forced overtime by scoring in the third.
Both teams came up empty after the overtime frame, sending it to a shootout that Century won 2-0.
Jamestown outshot Century 38-31. Blue Jay goaltender, Andrew Walz, made 27 saves.
