Blue Jays make good at on opportunities at Last Chance Meet

May 17—The pressure was on in Valley City Monday afternoon but what some members of the Jamestown High School track and field team showed was that they thrive under pressure.

The Jamestown High School girls and boys track and field teams finished up the regular season at the Bill Jansen Last Chance Meet. Both the girls and boys teams pulled together to earn second-place finishes with the guys earning 133 points and the girls racking up 141.5.

Central Cass took the girls' title with 164 team points while Lisbon notched a first-place finish for the guys with 153 points earned. Next on the agenda for Jays is the West Region Meet, scheduled for Friday in Dickinson.

The state meet is set to run May 26-28 at the Bismarck Community Bowl.

"Today was another meet with great weather that resulted in six more entries into the state meet," JHS co-head track and field coach Ken Gardner said. "It was exactly what we hoped to do at a last chance meet."

Annie Nabwe led the field of throwers with a 47 foot, 11 inch mark in the shot put and a 126-01 plant in discus. The senior also notched a personal best in the javelin contest, launching her stick 132 feet, 2 inches. Nabwe qualified for State in all three throwing events, the Jays' very first meet of the season, but on Monday, it was confirmed she'd have at least one of her teammates by her side come Memorial Day weekend.

Kinley Anderson punched her ticket to State in the discus contest. Anderson wound up second with a throw of 111 feet, 9 inches.

While Allysah Larson has already qualified for the Class A 2022 State Track and Field Meet in the 100 and 200 meter dash contests, the sophomore still had some unfinished business out on the track. Larson qualified for State in both the 400 meter dash and the 4x400 relay. Larson finished second in the 400, crossing the line at 1:00.78 and ran the opening leg of the relay, a start that helped her team finish the four laps in 4:13.41.

Over at the triple jump pit, Julia Skari put forth a personal record, launching her frame to a mark of 34 feet, 6 inches, just 2.5 inches behind Maple River's BriElle Killoran who won the event with a PR jump of 34-08.5.

Devin Beach has been working all season to earn a spot at the state meet in long jump. The senior made good on his last chance, earning a berth at the state meet with a jump of 20 feet, 11 inches.

Preston Kroeber added the 200-meter dash to the list of events he's qualified for, finishing the half of a lap in 23.21 seconds — a PR for the senior.
