Blue Jays bench coach Dave Hudgens involved in MLB's sign-stealing investigation

The Houston Astros appear to be descending further into a lengthy PR nightmare, and it looks like they’re nowhere close to getting out of it.

After The Athletic’s discovery this past week of the team stealing signs back in 2017 through a complicated system, Major League Baseball has decided to launch an investigation into the situation, and a current member of the Toronto Blue Jays is involved.

Bench coach Dave Hudgens was brought on as part of manager Charlie Montoyo’s staff last winter. Before that, he acted as the Astros’ hitting coach during the time that the sign stealing allegedly took place.

The whole system seems extremely elaborate.

Hudgens himself confirmed that the league’s Department of Investigation has contacted him. There are reportedly no allegations against Hudgens directly and the MLB will be contacting multiple members of the Astros, both former and current.
