Blue Hawk wrestling dominates at Tyler Plummer Classic

Jan. 30—DICKINSON — Dickinson State University's Blue Hawk Wrestling hosted the annual Tyler Plummer Classic on Saturday at Weinbergen Gym. The classic is named after former DSU wrestler and assistant coach Tyler Plummer, who passed away in 2012. Championship awards for the tournament are in the form of belt buckles, which are handed out by Plummer's family.

The Blue Hawks had a strong showing at the event, with five wrestlers advancing to the finals and two athletes winning titles. Wyatt Engwitch (125) and Konrich Speelmon (197) emerged as champions, taking home the commemorative belt buckles that signify victory in the Tyler Plummer Classic.

"It was a great day for Blue Hawk Wrestling," Justin Schlecht, DSU Head Coach, said. "The athletes represented all the great characteristics that Tyler held true and competed well at home."

In the 125 weight class, Wyatt Engwitch defeated Jose Gonzalez of Dickinson State in the first place match with a decision of 13-9. Dylan McDonald of Minot State won the third place match by fall over Shad Cano of Minnesota State Moorhead. Tanner Cook of MT State Northern won by no contest over Leo Anderson of MT State Northern in the fifth place match.

The 133 weight class was won by Kina'u McBrayer of Providence (Mont.), who won the first place match by fall over Brennon McDermott of MT State Northern. Eli Abercrombie of Providence won the third place match by fall over Deandre Coles of Providence. Cade Martian of Unattached won the fifth place match by forfeit over Elijah Chase Kaawa-Palakiko of Providence.

In the 141 weight class, Andrew Macias of Providence emerged as champion with a decision over Colin Silverthorn of MT State Northern. The third place match was won by Colin Silverthorn by major decision over Dante Reviglio of Providence.

Kaden Renner of Mary won the first place match in the 149 weight class with a decision over Jalen Vladic of Providence. Gunnar Mogen of Minnesota State Moorhead won the third place match by decision over Jordan Darby of Providence. Dylan Marlowe of Unattached won the fifth place match by fall over Caleb Nielsen of Dickinson State.

The 197 weight class was won by Konrich Speelmon of Dickinson State, who won by fall over Jacob Berkley of MT State Northern. The third place match was won by Cody McGovern of MT State Northern by decision over Tyler O'Boyle of Dickinson State.
