Bloomington North advances in regional tennis play

Bloomington North had to put together a new combination at No. 1 doubles but it was still too much for their foes from Seymour, in a 3-2 win in the semifinals of the North girls' tennis regional on Tuesday at South.

Maddie Brumley stepped in for the injured Ellie Bruce, pairing up by Keira Murphy to post a 6-3, 6-2 win. The usual duo of Bella Winkler and Siggy Force had to work a bit in the second set but finished, 6-1, 7-5, to send the Cougars (13-5) into the finals on Wednesday against No. 3 Columbus North, a 5-0 winner over Greensburg.

Brooke Bailey picked up North's first win, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Seymour's Brooke Schafstall topped North's Alex Shirley, 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 at 1 singles and Lucy Smith fell 6-3, 6-2 at 3 singles.

South individuals advance

In the individual tourney, South's Briah O'Neal beat Austin's Mayci Furnish, 6-1, 6-1 while the Panthers' doubles team of Maddie Santner and Riley Walker took down a duo from Shawe Memorial, 6-3, 6-2.

O'Neal (BHSS) will play Schafstall on Wednesday at 5:30, while the doubles team will await the results of the final.

Matches will be moved to the IU Tennis Center in case of rain.
