Here’s what shopping experts say you should add to your Black Friday list — and what to skip
Black Friday shopping is a huge deal, and even in our unusual times, 2020 is no exception. According to the National Retail Federation, while many people have changed their travel plans this year, 53 percent of them plan on spending more on shopping to make up for it.
What are the hot Black Friday deals shoppers should look for?
“Appliances,” says Sara Skriboll, shopping and trends expert for deals site RetailMeNot. “These are some of the best things to buy on Black Friday since retailers make more orders than they usually stock, so prices will drop 40 to 50 percent lower than normal retail.”
Not surprisingly, electronics are a hot pick as well, and Skriboll says, “Our advice? If you see a good deal on TVs — Apple TVs and 4Ks are the rage — phones or computers, pick them up right away!”
Skriboll also advises this is the time to pick up bigger ticket clothing items, like outerwear, explaining, “Winter clothes, like jackets, are some of the perfect items to buy as well. Much like appliances, retailers will drop prices dramatically over the holiday to help clear the overstock.”
There’s also a few things Skriboll suggests skipping, like furniture, saying, “Indoor furniture is at its lowest in January (so skip the holiday) and July through August. If you're looking for outdoor furniture, then the best discounts on patio furniture will happen between August and September.” She also told us to skip airfare deals. “Contrary to popular belief, buying airline tickets far in advance does not always yield the best airfare.”
