Black Friday 2020: Shopping or picking up orders? Here's when Macy's, Walmart, Kohl's, Target, other stores open.

Fewer shoppers are expected to head into stores this Black Friday but don't expect the parking lot to be empty.

More shoppers will pull into spots to pick up online orders than ever before.

Curbside pickup is one of the biggest ways Black Friday has changed amid the coronavirus pandemic as many take fewer trips into stores and place more online orders.

And this year, retailers have pushed shoppers to just that with more deals sold only online. Many stores have also designated more parking spaces to help meet the anticipated curbside rush.

Kimberly Palmer, a personal finance expert at NerdWallet, suggests this is one of the best ways to safely save this holiday season.

"Shop from home and take advantage of curbside pickup or in-store pickup – you can skip the lines and avoid crowded while shopping from your home, but also avoid the wait by picking up outside the store," Palmer told USA TODAY.

According to a survey of 1,000 consumers by Suzy, a real-time market research platform, 36% of Americans plan to shop in-person on Black Friday.

"There is no doubt that curbside, pick up in-store, Shipt, Instacart, and Uber has shifted consumer actions that we once thought unchangeable," Brett Rose, founder and CEO of United National Consumer Suppliers, told USA TODAY. "We have adapted to this 'new normal' but are still seeking that sense of normalcy and nostalgia while shopping this holiday season."
