Bills’ Josh Allen won’t play vs. Colts in preseason opener

While the Indianapolis Colts will be trotting out their starting offense for roughly an entire quarter in Saturday’s preseason opener, the Buffalo Bills are sitting starting quarterback Josh Allen.

Teams have different philosophies when it comes to preseason playing time and given that the Colts have a new quarterback running the offense, they need time to get the chemistry right before Week 1 of the regular season rolls around.

The Bills don’t feel that’s necessary for the first week of the preseason, though, as head coach Sean McDermott wants to limit the chances of injury to the star quarterback.

“We’ve got to do what’s our best for our team and we’ll do that the next couple of days,” McDermott said via Bills Wire.

Instead of seeing the electric Allen on Saturday afternoon, the Colts are likely to see a combination of Case Keenum and Matt Barkley for the majority of the contest.

The Colts are expected to play Ryan for roughly a quarter depending on the flow of the game. It wouldn’t be a surprise if they did sit some players like running back Jonathan Taylor.

We’ll see just how much the Colts starters actually play during the preseason opener, but don’t expect Allen to be suiting up at Highmark Stadium.
