Bills’ Dion Dawkins: Feeling ‘solid’ but Jets status remains uncertain

Bills offensive lineman Dion Dawkins described his feelings towards his ongoing injury situation with one word.

“Solid,” he said.

On Thanksgiving against the Lions, the injury sustained by Von Miller which led to the end of his season took headlines. However, the ankle issue that hit Dawkins is thankfully going in the opposite direction.

While head coach Sean McDermott will only give us the “one day at a time” updates, Dawkins provided deeper insight speaking via video conference this week.

According to Dawkins, he suffered a high-ankle sprain which should have kept him off the field for upward of three weeks.

Instead, he’s already back out there.

“It was a culture shock, for real,” Dawkins said. “It was different, but I’m blessed. I truly am. My injury, like it was a high ankle sprain and I was supposed to be sitting out for three hard weeks and I’m practicing in nine days or 10 days. So, I can’t be nothing but thankful for my trainers and everybody in that training room that has helped me get to the position that I am at now, which is a step closer.”

Despite the positive outlook, Dawkins did not commit to saying whether or not he will play in Week 14 against the Jets (7-5).

“I’m pushing toward helping my team in any way. Whether it’s me on the sideline or me on the football field, I’m working to get myself ready to protect Josh (Allen),” Dawkins said.

So far throughout this week, Dawkins has been listed as limited on team practice reports. On Friday, the Bills (9-3) will send out their final injury designations for all players ahead of Sunday’s matchup and Bills Wire will provide that information when it’s made available.

One would likely guess Dawkins will be listed as questionable and his status will be a game-time decision. If Dawkins can’t go, the likely replacement is David Quessenberry.
