Billie Eilish opens up about the source of her body image struggles: ’I have never been physically desired’
Billie Eilish is opening up about her insecurities in a new interview, during which the singer confessed to feeling like she’s “never been desired.”
The 18-year-old, who has been vocal about her body image struggles in the past, made the comments in a new interview with GQ for the magazine’s July/August issue.

Eilish touched on a wide array of comments during the feature, including her fame, her style and the way the media perceives her. The “Bad Guy” singer told GQ she still had “major issues” with her body image — a fact she credited to both past relationships and news headlines obsessing over her appearance.
“Here’s a bomb for you: I have never felt desired. My past boyfriends never made me feel desired. None of them. It’s a big thing in my life that I feel I have never been physically desired by somebody,” Eilish said.
“So I dress the way I dress as I don’t like to think of you guys — I mean anyone, everyone — judging it, or the size of it. But that doesn’t mean that I won’t wake up one day and decide to wear a tank top, which I have done before,” she added.
The five-time Grammy winner also addressed the video she had begun sharing during her now-postponed 2020 tour, which featured her slowly taking off one of her famously baggy outfits. Eilish later shared the video on Instagram with the caption “NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY.”
“I felt very motivated to do it,” Eilish wrote of her decision to show the video during concerts. “Although, of course, the Daily Mail headlines the next day ran ‘Billie strips to her bra in new tour visuals’. I thought, ‘Are you actually deadass?’ How predictable.”
Eilish went on to point out that she is “not stripping” in the clip, voicing frustrations she also aired in an April interview with Dazed, during which she said she “can’t win” when it comes to how the public perceives her body.
“The whole point is that I don’t strip all the way to my bra as it’s gone before you see it — it’s not yours to see,” Eilish told GQ.
Meanwhile, several of Eilish’s fans have been tremendously supportive of her video, calling it an “amazing” and “courageous” message.
“So many people needed to hear this,” one fans wrote on Instagram.
“Say it louder for the people in the back,” another added.
