Big Spring police: Man had almost 70 pounds of marijuana, other drugs in house

BIG SPRING – Narcotics officers who were arresting a Big Spring man on warrants discovered almost 70 pounds of marijuana at his residence, as well as other illegal drugs and a large sum of cash, according to a Big Spring police news release.

When police approached Patrick Aaron Ramirez outside his residence in the 1600 block of Stadium about 4:15 p.m. Thursday, the suspect threw a "marijuana cigarette near the front door of the residence," the release said.

While seizing the cigarette, "investigators could smell a strong odor of cultivated marijuana from within the residence," the release said.

After obtaining a search warrant, officers entered the residence. They found about 69 pounds of marijuana, 7.07 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 1 gram of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), $107,000 cash and two firearms, including one reported stolen out of Howard County, the release said.

In addition to the previous charges related the warrants, Ramirez faces new charges: theft of firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, money laundering, two counts of manual delivery of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance, according to Howard County Jail records.

Ramirez remains in jail, and the investigation continues
