Bids open to improve Willoughby Hills City Hall; fire hydrants getting painted

Jun. 26—Using funds allocated from the American Rescue Plan for infrastructure improvements, Willoughby Hills City Engineer Pietro DiFranco has gone out to bid for repaving the City Hall parking lot.

Bids were opened as of June 23, and the city looks forward to beginning the project, along with improvements to the City Hall steps and signage, said Mayor Andy Gardner.

"All these efforts should serve to ensure that our city has a nice aesthetic look to both our residents and visitors to our city," Gardner said.

In addition, fire hydrant painting has begun in the city. Gardner credits Service Superintendent Mark Grubiss for taking the lead to make this happen.

"While normally the Lake County Department of Utilities provides this service, a reduction in manpower has not made it possible for them to take on this task," Gardner said. "They have, however, provided the city with the paint for the project, and we look forward to getting the hydrants taken care of this year."

The city's Service Department has acquired a part-time service worker to begin the work of painting the fire hydrants in the city.

Matt Diaz, who recently began this task, is starting with some hydrants in the Glen area, which includes Kennelly, Red Fox Pass, Trailard, Dodd's Hill and Dodd.

The city has a list of nearly 300 hydrants and will continue until the list is completed. If someone has a hydrant they want to make sure does not get missed, they may email the location to Gloria Majeski in the Mayor's Office at gloriamajeski@willoughbyhills-oh.gov.
